Club de Yates

The Yacht Club history goes back to 40 decade, when a group of citizens and lovers of the port were joining to develop activities related to the yatching, using an adjacent beach where now it is the Condominio Los Cocos. This group was autonaming Marina Club.

The group met around Lew Riley, who was taking charge, organizing ditches every week. Through the time and on having increased the number of associates of the club, Lew Riley proposed that they should change their current location, for what they acquired of Mr. Pepe de la Vega, 1,000 square meters in Santa Lucia bay.

In 1955 Dolores del Rio, wife of Riley, put the first stone of the new facilities. They began constructing the central wharf where the fuel pump is now, improving the safety of the ships since the previous club had them anchored and only a small wharf existed to rise and land the persons.

On December 19, 1955 the Club was formally inaugurated. And in 1956 everything was ready to receive San Diego's Ditch.

The Yacht Club of Acapulco has relied on diverse distinguished members  between those there are: John Wayne, Don Gustavo Díaz Ordaz and Don Miguel Alemán Valdéz, who in addition was a formidable promoter; also there were among the associates recognized figures of the international yatching as "Papi " Allen.

In 1967, when was decided that the Yacht Club would be  seat 68's Olympic Games, the Federal Government and Marina's Secretary initiated the projects of extension and many areas were begun to refill. Of one only wharf passed to a levee of more than 600 meters. These works gave the Club capacity for 300 to 400 yachts.

Thanks to the Olympics, also the whole zone of the restaurant was extended, the big pond was constructed and many of the houses built around stayed inside the area of the Yacht Club. Undoubtedly, the Olympics were an event without precedent not only for the Club but for the Acapulco Port and injected to this one vigor and force. The Architect Mario Pani was Commodore at this time and he contributed to the renovation and local improvement. Already with new facilities and a bigger wharf, the Yacht Club received international importance.

In 1977, the Board chooses for Commodore the Lic. Aarón Sáenz, enclosed who was reelected 3 occasions. According to the opinion of personnel and associates, Aarón Sáenz is one of the most prominent figures in the history of the Club, for all the work he realized in favour of the place and because he represents somehow the spirit of the Club.

The Club organizes monthly ditches, tilts of fishing and parties among associates. It also gives classes of sport fishing and Optimist's clinics that are given as part of a Program of promotion to the sport, training children between 7 and 15 years not associates of the club that are selected among the best students of the schools of Acapulco and for it, the Club possesses 20 proper ships.

The Yacht Club of Acapulco has been consolidated every day more and is renewed to offer excellent services to its associates and visitors.

Nowadays funge as Commodore the Lic. Ricardo Brockmann who says to us: " For many of us Acapulco without its Yacht Club, would not be Acapulco. There are already different generations who have lived and enjoyed this great Club, which has allowed us to enjoy the sea and to acquire experiences that it is true, only the sea can give us.

The Yacht Club has been, and continues being, an example of the change that Mexico faces already. We have changed all. We have adapted to the needs of our associates, so many of them of always as the new generations. We have laid the foundations in order that the sail, the fishing and the yatching develop with firm and determined step ".
