Acapulco Nowdays
The city of Acapulco is considered the seventeenth metropolitan zone of Mexico, to municipal level counts a total population of 717,766 habitants. The city is an important vacational center worldwide, from the 50's, decade in which begins the boom of constructions of great height. Acapulco is in an economically privileged zone, since it is located 411 km south of the Mexico City.

Nowadays the city has 101 buildings between 40 and 123 meters high, it is necessary to emphasize that Acapulco was of the first cities in Mexico - together with with Mexico City - in relying on buildings of more than 40 meters, and today it is one of the cities with better urban scenes in Mexico.
The first building of Acapulco goes back to 50 decade, with the Presidente Acapulco Hotel, work of the architect Juan Sordo Madaleno with 45 meters and 14 floors, its construction began in 1949 and was finished in 1954, this building is considered to be one of the first buildings of height of Acapulco and Mexico. It was the highest until 1957, year in which the construction of the Condominio Los Cocos finished, work of the architect Mario Pani Darqui, with 48 meters and 13 floors. It was the highest of the south of Mexico for one year until 1958, year in which the construction of one of the most modern hotels of Mexico finished, called Hotel Elcano of 50 meters and 12 floors, this building was the highest for 12 years until 1969 year when is concluded the construction of the Avalon Excalibur of 100 meters and 21 floors. Is necessary to emphasize that it was the second city in the Mexican Republic in passing the barrier of 95 meters, it was for 3 years the highest, until once again the boom of constructions exceeded 105 meters from which the Condominio Torres Gemelas distinguish with 110 meters and a whole of 60 floors.
Among the highest and modern buildings of the city we emphasize the Tower of Acapulco of 114 meters and 31 floors, constructed in 1988 and turning into one of the highest and modern of the Costera Miguel Alemán avenue, the Costa Victoria Towers of 106 meters and a whole of 84 floors, being these an icon in for the Santa Lucia bay, also we have to remark the Condomios La Joya Towers of 113 meters and a whole of 52 floors.
Nowadays the three highest places of the city are the Oceanic 2000 with 123 meters and 33 floors, it is one of 50 highest places of Mexico and the highest of the south of the country, Torre Coral with 122 meters and 31 floors is the second higher building of Acapulco, the building Estrella del Mar with 120 meters and 26 floors was the highest for 16 years and nowadays is one of the most modern of the city and the third one higher place of the south of Mexico.
